With next month taking us into party season (hurrah), River Island asked me to put together an outfit suitable for a work party. For me, I’ve never been an overly formal guy so I wanted to style a smart casual kind of look that is suitable for party occasions but also be worn, let’s say, on the pier…

An unstructured cotton shirt without any cuff details is a really simple alternative to the standard oxford and gives you that effortless edge. Then instead of trousers, I went for skinny fit blue jeans to dress down the outfit, as I feel a lot more comfortable in denim. I think because of the skinny fit you can get away with denim at a party, but I’d steer away from bootcut.

The statement piece of this for me is the shearling jacket. It’s bang-on trend and with it being winter it has that practical use to. The faux fur collar adds a touch of structure and looks great over the shirt. It pretty much screams Christmas.

I then opted for some suede Chelsea boots rather than a leather finish, again having a casual finish in mind. That doesn’t mean they do not look smart, but have a revamped and modern feel instead. If anyone else has already got a party pencilled in for the festive season, let me know what you’re planning to wear.

You can find my outfit on the River Island website here!
